Our Founder
Millard Lain went to work on a drilling rig the day after he graduated high school and from that day in 1955 until the day he stepped away from the industry he performed every task that existed on a drilling rig up to that time.
The Journey
After years of working for different companies, he struck out on his own in the late 60's. Tiger Oil Tool Co. specialized in the cementing and sidetracking of wells along with dual and triple string completions.
Years of success and growth allowed him to step away and pursue his childhood dream of raising and racing horses.
Back On Track
While enjoying the life of a horseman, Millard realized that his life journey was the oilfield and in 1984 he decided it was time to get back to work.
He loaded up the family and moved to Odessa Texas...the unofficial home of the domestic oil & gas industry.
Mesquite Oil Tool Co. was born.
New Direction
Starting a new business in one of the lowest points of the domestic oilfield equipment market was not easy. Millard relied on his extensive knowledge to buy tools that were in the greatest need.
Downhole Fishing Tools became the focus of the business and international market need dictated a move to Houston in the early 90's.
Today & Beyond
The landscape of the industry had changed over the years and the expanding need for equipment created the need for aftermarket Fishing Tool manufacturers like never before.
While there have been several different designs of Fishing Tools over time the Series 150 Overshot and 'Itco' Type Releasing Spear had become the most commonly used catch tools by Fishing Tool companies.
Over the years Mesquite had built up one of the largest inventories of Overshots, Spears, Grapples and accessories available and the aftermarket manufacturers often turned to us when they needed quality parts during the engineering process to ensure interchangeability with OEM parts.
Over the years working with manufacturers, suppliers, in-users and everyone in between every major manufacturer has either changed ownership, merged with a competitor or outright shut the doors. Because of these continuous changes and upstart 'bargain' manufacturers overseas we decided that the only way to guarantee that we can continue to provide our customers with the equipment they need was to manufacture tools ourselves.

We still have one of the largest inventories of surplus, unused and rebuilt Fishing Tools available today but we can also manufacture the parts that we may not have in stock for you.
